MS-Sen-B: Musgrove on the Air

Here’s a powerful new ad from Ronnie Musgrove:

There’s Ronnie Musgrove, standing in the dilapidated house that he grew up in, telling us about his family’s struggle after he lost his father at age seven, and talking about how he’ll help those who are currently struggling. It’s a powerful message — one that’s very reminiscent of the story of Travis Childers’ life.

  1. That might be the most powerful ad of the cycle.

I really like the quirky ads by Novick, Perriello and Grayson but I think this might just beat that.

  2. Out of curiosity is there any mention of him being a democrat in the ad?  There won’t be party ID on the ballot so I’m curious if he wants to get the word out in his ads or not.

  3. This is good.

I know Mississippi has fallen under the radar for obvious reasons, but I hope the DSCC and others fully appreciate how winnable this seat is.

That R2K poll from last week, while showing Musgrove down 48-43, gives great news for Musgrove.  He’s losing the white vote 73-23, with just four percent undecided, but winning the black vote 75-7, with 18 percent undecided.  So, while just about all of Wicker’s base is decided, Musgrove’s is not.

If Musgrove can hold 24% of whites, he will win if ends up with that 91% of black voters and they make up 39% of the vote.  That’s the whole key.  I have to believe at 37% of the state, black turnout can go up just a hair to 39%.  If it does, and Musgrove holds what he already seems to have, he will squeak out a victory.

  4. Musgrove needs to begin expelling ALL of his cash. This race was once a hot race but after 3 Rass polls of the race going away from Musgrove this race has died down. The DSCC, and 527 groups won’t spend money for Musgrove until he shows that the race is going in his favor. The DSCC has a lot of money but they have OR, MN, NC, AK (Stevens re-surged a bit) to take care of.

Musgrove needs to pretty much spend all his money and bring up his numbers so that 527’s and the DSCC see him with as a better opportunity to finance.

  5. Still feel this is tough but hey, if Ronnie can do it you gotta think there will be at least 57 other Democrats and Bernie Sanders to meet him in Washington come January (Lieberman will either be number 60 in the caucus, flip parties or be in the cabinet).

  6. He and Childers should campaign together in northern Mississippi, arguably the toughest region of the state for Democrats.  Childers seems very likely to be able to help Musgrove out.  Musgrove is already helping himself out with this ad.
